Looking ahead—Dunkirk plans for 2009

By GIB SNYDER; Dunkirk Observer

POSTED: January 4, 2009

Ahlstrom said his biggest goal in 2009 was getting the Remtronics relocation deal finished and a big step was taken with Empire Zone approval at the local level but there was still work to be done. A point of emphasis he said was developing the former Steffans Marina in the harbor.

"There's an offer in and a contract on that building that is contingent on Empire Zone certification," he said. "Based on what we did down there last year with the Boardwalk and the Crocker Sprague and the music on the pier, to get that opened in 2009 would be the next general evolution of that process. Their plan is basically the retail area in '09 and the docks in 2010. That would be fantastic for the harbor."

Ahlstrom also said there were three or four other projects where, "people are tire kicking."

Getting the Remtronics and marina projects completed are Ahlstrom's two main goals, along with having one of the possibles done in 2009.
